RoboFlight Systems, Inc. and Ritewing RC have partnered to design, manufacture, and distribute two new delta wing UAV aircraft. The aircraft are designed exclusively by Ritewing RC for RoboFlight and will be distributed exclusively by RoboFlight to their global customers.
Ritewing RC has over seventeen collective years of UAV airfoil prototyping, engineering and distribution and is the exclusive manufacturer of the Zephyr and Zephyr II flying wing aircraft, having sold thousands of units each worldwide. The aircraft are meant to meet the remote sensing needs of various industries, from agriculture and search and rescue to utilities and mining.
"A year ago we recognized the UAV market's pent up demand for this product. Since that time we developed the new products after more than fifty airfoil revisions," shared Chris Klick, Ritewing RC's CEO. "We wanted a partner who could bring industry expertise as well as the ability to help us properly scale for the unquestionable increase in sales, manufacturing, and customer service. When RoboFlight Systems approached us we instantly saw them as the best fit. It is beneficial that coincidentally both our current manufacturing operations are in close proximity.” To accommodate the necessary amount of manufacturing, RoboFlight Systems has moved their Phoenix manufacturing to a larger facility, effectively doubling its manufacturing square footage.
"If you look at the current UAV market worldwide, there is a bifurcation in terms of pricing and product offerings," explains Phil Ellerbroek, Global Director of Sales at RoboFlight. "At one end a customer finds hobby aircraft that greatly lack their required technological and operational capabilities. At the other end are platforms that are expensive, over engineered and have been highly prohibitive for most nonmilitary organizations to adopt. The aircraft will offer the performance and features comparable with UAVs priced multiple times higher. These two aircraft are meant to completely disrupt the UAV market."
"Because of the responsive yet gentle flight characteristics and robust airframe construction, these new aircraft will soon be introduced as the dedicated platforms for RoboFlight's UAS Flight Training Academy," added Kirk Demuth, RoboFlight System's Chief Operating Officer and acting supervisor of the UAS Flight Training Academy.
A preorder date is soon to be announced, while delivery of units is estimated to begin in July 2014.
